SHANTI UGANDA BIRTH HOUSE AND LEARNING CENTRE

A short bicycle ride or boda boda trip (motorcycle ride) outside of Kasana in the District of Luwero is the community of Nsaasi. The community is small and most practice subsistence farming with much diversity in livestock, fruits and vegetables. Most trading and shopping is done in Kasana town and there remains little infrastructure in the surrounding village communities outside of the towns along the Gulu Road. Kasana is about an hour or so north of Kampala.

There is little access to health care in the village communities and most pregnant women or sick children only travel to the hospitals or medical clinics in times of crisis. The need for the birth centre is high and in a good location where support is close at hand in those trying times or if more serious complications occur. The centre also offers to provide preventative care, education, and mentorship to village midwives, youth and families.

We are working with the Shanti Uganda Society which will provide the long-term support in the community to pregnant mothers, local birth attendants, and families looking to improve their lifestyles and raise healthy happy children.
